What made you join Cam City WI?

I went on a flower arranging taster day with friends and really enjoyed myself. I wouldn’t do anything like that on my own, so I started to think about other cool stuff I might be able to do in Cambridge. The WI came to mind, having seen quite a lot of publicity about how it now has a younger demographic, especially in urban areas. I came to my first session in June 2016 and loved meeting everyone, so decided to join. I have indeed done some cool stuff and look forward to doing more things out of my comfort zone. In particular, I have always been completely ham-fisted when it comes to crafts (my textiles teacher used to take my sewing home to unpick it and basically do it again for me), so would like to give it another go.

What's your life philosophy?

That everything works out for the best in the end.

What's your guilty pleasure?

I’ve always been a huge TV addict and binge-watcher. When I was young I had my favourite sitcoms on VHS and I would watch them on constant rotation. The availability of hundreds of box sets on Netflix and Amazon has not done my productivity any favours. I reason that TV is the new long form novel and I’m expanding my mind. I’m not sure where Strictly and Bake Off fit into that theory.
My poison is definitely chocolate. Dark, milk, white … I’m not fussy. It just has to be within easy reach.

If you had a million pounds, what would you do with it?

In reality I would probably use it to buy a house, but let’s pretend I have that sorted … in which case I would use it to go back to university to get another degree. I enjoy studying and would love to take an extended break from work. It would also be interesting to experience university as a mature student. I’m not sure what I would study, maybe psychology.

What's on your bucket list?

  1. Write a piece of fiction that I am proud of. I have no great ambitions to be published, but I would like to finish something that I can look back on and think was ok.

  2. Travel to South America.

  3. Take up a craft – as I said, I reckon the WI can definitely help me with this one!

What would your ideal day entail?

Luckily I get to experience my perfect day quite often – I’m easily pleased. I would get up early and take a long walk around Cambridge in the morning sunshine, before any tourists or students are out. I’d have a leisurely breakfast and then maybe go to a yoga class. In the afternoon I would go to the cinema (on my own – one of my most favourite things to do), followed by dinner and cocktails with friends.
